Overview

Critical path scheduling arose in order to visualize and manage the interdependencies and complexities of project activities, resources and time constraints. Most people who are planning a simple project keep the logical framework and timeline in their head – sharing with other project team members only their individual tasks (not their interdependencies) which often leads to confusion between team members. With more complex projects involving multiple resources working on concurrent activities, critical path scheduling is even more essential for success. Operations Managers control the project resource pool – Project Managers must work closely with them in a proactive manner to ensure the optimal assignment of available resources to meet the project’s effort needs and scheduling milestones / constraints. This collaboration is iterative, occurring throughout the project’s lifecycle based on a number of changing factors – prioritization, forecasts, construction delays, Clients changes, etc.

Why is this session important?

Critical path scheduling arose to help visualize and manage the interdependencies and complexities of project activities, resources and time constraints. Most people who are planning a simple project keep the logical framework and timeline in their head. However, as integration projects become increasingly complex, involving multiple resources working on multiple projects, critical path scheduling is essential for project success.
